Auch in Japan haben viele Leute das Gefühl, dass Ausländer alles Kriminelle seien. Luke Elliot schreibt über einen aktuellen Artikel in der Japan Times mit dem Titel Time to come clean on foreign crime wave.

Lesenswert ist bereits mal seine Einleitung:

I was born in Canada, which I consider to be a self-righteous and hypocritical nation. I have lived well over half my life in Japan, which I consider to be a self-righteous and hypocritical nation. Come to think of it, I consider all of the nations I am acquainted with to be self-righteous and hypocritical. In a way, that may be what nationhood is all about.

Und dann die Fakten zum Thema Ausländer-Kriminalität:

3. Crimes committed by foreigners make up 1.39% of all crimes committed in Japan.
4. Foreigners make up 1.5% of Japan’s population.
6. Moreover, one third (that’s about 33%) of all crimes committed by foreigners are in fact visa infractions (staying beyond the time limit allowed by a visa)—a non-violent crime which is by definition impossible for a Japanese person to commit.

Auch die Japan Times selber bezieht ganz klar Stellung gegen diese Ausländerfeindlichkeit.

For those who read and watch the Japanese press, these are scary times. Foreign crime is allegedly on the rise, members of the new Koizumi Cabinet are making clear policy statements against it, and the National Police Agency is ready for a new push.

This is despite incontrovertible evidence that foreign crime rates are actually lower than those of Japanese.

Alles in allem zwei sehr lesenswerte Artikel. Und bitte keine Anti-Japan Kommentare. Die Schweiz leidet unter dem gleichen Problem - man sucht sich das leichteste Ziel für die Angriffe.
